While I still do prefer to purchase my music rather than download illegally, this is a terrible truth. And even the actual artists have to pay people back for producing their music, so they have to sell a certain number of albums in which ALL the profit goes to pay everyone else, and THEN they begin to make profit themselves. So, for an artist selling 1 or 2 million copies, the first million or so, they don’t make anything off of. The next million is where they begin to make their teensy profit.
If you’re looking to support the artists themselves, buy some of their merchandise. A t-shirt sale will earn them way more than an album sale. (:
